Resources for Support

As Elira journeyed into the next realm, I have had to figure out the various resources available. Often, the first question I get is if I have seen a Grief Therapist. I completely understand that for some people, Grief Therapists have been lifesavers. For me, it has been other parents like me who have lost children to suicide, parents who have lost children in any way, particularly moms who have lost their precious kids. I don’t know where I would be without my bereaved parents on-line community. They have supported me in more ways than I can state. Many of the moms have become my best friends. The Compassionate Friends on-line community is a great place to start but there are so many other groups for each different kind of loss. This path is difficult but alone, it is even more so. I am listing below some websites that I have found helpful in my journey. I will be adding more as I expand this blog, especially books that have been helpful.

Dr. Joanne Cacciatore

Dr. Cacciatore has been a God sent. Her work and view on grief and trauma have helped me tremendously. Here is a link to her blog:

Dr. Robert D. Stolorow

Dr. Stolorow’s work has helped me understand and decipher the way I feel. His work has been helpful in learning about how our human brain and psyche processes loss and trauma. His concept of “portkeys” has been very helpful in my painful journey of losing Elira.
